Stripmuseum – Duik in het bruisende universum van de 9de Kunst, in het hart van een Art-nouveaumeesterwerk
Het Stripmuseum nodigt u uit om een wereld binnen te stappen waar beelden verhalen vertellen, waar tekstballonnen spreken en waar de Belgische verbeelding zich met grenzeloze creativiteit uitdrukt. Gevestigd in een prachtig Art-nouveaugebouw van Victor Horta, verenigt dit emblematische museum in Brussel op elegante wijze architectuur, erfgoed en de negende kunst. Zodra u de drempel overschrijdt, zet het decor de toon: licht, vloeiend, inspirerend, bijna magisch.
Op deze historische plek, een voormalig warenhuis en het laatste gebouw van dit type dat nog overeind staat en door Horta werd ontworpen, vindt het stripverhaal een passend kader. Op enkele minuten van het stadscentrum beleeft u het bezoek als een vrolijke en leerrijke ontdekkingstocht, toegankelijk voor liefhebbers en nieuwsgierigen, voor nostalgische volwassenen en verwonderde kinderen.
Een eeuw Belgische strip om te ontdekken
Het hart van het museum klopt op het ritme van de permanente tentoonstelling « Een eeuw Belgische strip », de rode draad van het parcours. U doorloopt de grote etappes van het stripverhaal, van de oorsprong tot vandaag, en ontdekt hoe dit medium uitgroeide tot een pijler van de Belgische cultuur.
De originele platen trekken meteen de aandacht. U blijft staan, komt dichterbij en observeert de lijnvoering, de inkt, soms zelfs zichtbare correcties. Elke tekening vertelt niet alleen het verhaal dat zij illustreert, maar ook het gebaar van de auteur. Zo onthult het stripverhaal zich als een volwaardige kunstvorm: veeleisend, precies en diep expressief.
Het museum belicht de rijkdom van het Belgische erfgoed, dat ver buiten de landsgrenzen wordt erkend, en reikt u de sleutels aan om de evolutie van stijlen, thema’s en technieken te begrijpen.
Een levendig museum met tijdelijke tentoonstellingen
Naast de permanente tentoonstelling onderscheidt het Stripmuseum zich door een uitgebreid programma van tijdelijke tentoonstellingen, die regelmatig worden vernieuwd. Deze tentoonstellingen bieden een andere blik op de 9de Kunst: een auteur, een stroming, een grafisch universum of een specifiek thema.
Deze voortdurende dynamiek nodigt uit om terug te keren, de plek vanuit een ander perspectief te herontdekken en u bij elk bezoek opnieuw te laten verrassen. Het museum zet het stripverhaal niet vast in het verleden, maar toont het levend, hedendaags en voortdurend in evolutie.
Een plek van ontdekking en esthetische bewondering
Het bezoek is ook een volwaardige esthetische ervaring. Het Art-nouveaugebouw, met zijn gebogen lijnen, glaspartijen en elegante volumes, gaat subtiel in dialoog met de tentoongestelde werken. U kijkt regelmatig omhoog, zowel om de architectuur te bewonderen als om het narratieve parcours van de tentoonstellingen te volgen.
De stripbibliotheek, een van de best uitgeruste ter wereld, verlengt het plezier. Zij biedt een ruimte om te raadplegen en te ontdekken, waar u de tijd kunt nemen om te bladeren, te vergelijken en te verdiepen. Een ware schat voor liefhebbers en occasionele lezers.
Het hele museum cultiveert dit gevoel van ontdekking en bewondering, waarbij u moeiteloos van visuele verwondering naar intellectuele nieuwsgierigheid gaat, zonder ooit het leesplezier te verliezen.

French comic magazine Métal Hurlant is 50 years old! Jean-Pierre Dionnet, Philippe Druillet, Moebius and Bernard Farkas founded the magazine in 1975. So many years later, this dream machine is steaming ahead at full speed.
From its early years, Métal Hurlant did not just redefine comics: the magazine pushed the boundaries between artistic disciplines and opened a whole new space for dialogue between drawing, science fiction, music, film and philosophy. Meanwhile, it is widely acknowledged to have changed the face of comics worldwide.
In its half-century of existence, the cogs of the machine jammed a few times, but in 2021 the magazine, in a new guise, began a new life. This third revolution, meanwhile, counts 12 issues.
To celebrate Métal Hurlant's 50th anniversary, the exhibition looks at the past and present, zooming in on the richness and influence of the revolutionary magazine, which reaches far beyond the world of comics.

In 2021, the Comic Art Museum launched Le Dessableur, a bilingual journal devoted to the history and study of comics. The title was inspired by “Rue des Sables,” the street where the museum is located.
Conceived as a complement to the museum’s exhibitions, the journal explores themes that would not easily fit within traditional scenography. Each issue takes a closer look at specific aspects of comics—speech balloons, cutaway views, collage, subjective viewpoints, photo comics, silent comics, and autobiographical comics—offering new ways to look at the comic book artform.
The journal places great importance on publishing original content by commissioning covers from contemporary artists, presenting previously unpublished comic strips and pages, and developing its own drawn reportages. Le Dessableur serves not only as a platform for art analysis but also a space for artistic creation and experimentation.
In just five years and nearly twenty issues, Le Dessableur has established itself as a prolific laboratory where research, history and artistic practice meet.

On Thursday 23 April, we have the incredible honour and pleasure of welcoming Dutch star author Aimée De Jongh. She has written and illustrated an impressive oeuvre that has won numerous awards. In 2025, she won the Willy Vandersteen Prize (the prize for the best Dutch-language album) for her comic adaptation of the classic novel Lord of the Flies. It promises to be a particularly fascinating evening in which she will give an insight into her rich career.
