Train World – A spectacular journey into the heart of the railway adventure
Train World invites visitors to step aboard an extraordinary experience where the train becomes far more than a means of transport. Located in the former Schaerbeek station, the oldest in the Brussels Region, this museum impresses from the very first steps. The historic building provides the setting for a fascinating immersion into railway history, from the first steam locomotives to high-speed trains, presented through a staging that is both immersive and spectacular.
Here, visitors do not simply look at trains: they approach them, walk through them and feel their presence. The visitor becomes a traveller, sometimes even a driver, in a place that speaks as much to memory as to the senses.
Iconic locomotives to discover up close
Across more than 10,000 m² of exhibition space, Train World presents an impressive collection of locomotives and historic carriages. Some are monumental, others more elegant, yet each tells the story of an era, a technical breakthrough and a way of travelling. Visitors move from powerful steam engines to modern train sets, discovering how railways transformed landscapes, cities and ways of life.
One of the great pleasures of the visit lies in this rare proximity to the trains. Visitors of all ages can climb aboard, sit in a carriage or explore a driver’s cab. The luxury of the royal carriages contrasts with the robustness of industrial locomotives, offering a complete and nuanced view of railway heritage.
An immersive scenography designed by François Schuiten
What makes Train World truly unique is its immersive and dynamic scenography, created by the illustrator François Schuiten. The exhibition unfolds like a visual narrative, almost cinematic in style. Light, perspectives and soundscapes accompany visitors, creating the impression of travelling through different eras.
The museum plays with volumes, silences and moments of surprise. Visitors hear the breath of machines and sometimes even perceive the scent of metal, wood and grease, sensory details that enhance the immersion. The visit becomes a living experience where the past is not only observed, but physically felt.

To mark the centenary of SNCB-NMBS, Train World presents Fashion & Trains, an exhibition exploring the fascinating world of fashion and rail travel.
From the very beginning, railways have borne witness to the changing fashions of those who travelled by train. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to cast a spotlight not on the train itself, but on the passengers and railway staff, seen through the fresh perspective of their clothes, from 1835 to the present day.
This journey also offers the chance to admire superb railway posters, each capturing the spirit of travel and revealing how closely the worlds of rail and fashion have long been intertwined.
As an introduction to Fashion & Trains, four young designers were invited to imagine the clothes worn by the travellers of today and tomorrow.

In collaboration with Filem’On and as part of the Filem’On festival, Train World will once again be holding an exciting evening of films consisting of seven short animated films that the whole family will enjoy.
Train World is exploring the world of fashion, and Filem’On is jumping on the bandwagon. With a curated selection of animated films covering all manner of aspects of fashion and clothing, from the hijab to the T-shirt, from floral prints to woollen mittens. An original series of animated films without words, curated by Filem’On- the International Film Festival for Young Audiences. For all ages.
The short films will be shown in the old ticket hall of the Schaerbeek railway station (the first part of Train World). The films are very accessible for all.

This year, we’ll colour both inside and outside the lines in a watercolour workshop and focus on fashion with the Maison Millefeuille atelier.
Creative Watercolour Workshop
Have you always dreamed of exploring watercolour painting?
You will learn how to sketch train carriages and wagons, capture details and create atmosphere with just a few brush strokes. You will master the use of water and pigments and work with real watercolour materials.
Together you’ll be making a fresco of drawings. At the end of the day, you will take home a notebook filled with personal and lasting memories.
No prior experience required.

Maison Millefeuille
Maison Millefeuille is a fashion house, world-famous for its extraordinary creations made of paper… They have now received a special assignment from SNCB. Apparently, many newspapers are left behind on trains… Could Millefeuille design clothing made of newspaper for the new exhibition at Train World?
All children will first receive instructions from a character and then get to work themselves. They will create a small design using newspaper on a miniature mannequin.

This lecture explores how the art of the Belgian poster, tourism, and the railways combine to paint a fascinating portrait of over a century of evolving sartorial culture. Designers deliberately used fashion to express social status, modernity, freedom, and identity. The clothing worn by the travelers depicted often contrasts with local traditions or railway uniforms, reflecting the dreams, ambitions, and lifestyles of each era.
At the same time, the poster itself evolved. Art Nouveau, lithography and offset printing, modernist graphic design, Pop Art, and contemporary graphic styles kept pace with changing silhouettes, fabrics, and dress codes. Thus, our railway posters reveal not only where people traveled but also who they wereor who they aspired to become.
Through an exceptional selection of posters from the history of Belgian railways, we encounter artists inspired by the past and discover how fashion left its mark on the visual imagery of travel, while the art of the poster became a unique mirror of social and aesthetic evolution.
