An ideal visit if you enjoy original, indulgent and friendly experiences to share with family or friends, to discover Belgium from an angle as tasty as it is unexpected.
At the Frietmuseum Brussels, fries are not just talked about they are told, experienced and tasted. This unique museum offers an immersion that is educational, playful, interactive and delightfully gourmet, dedicated to one of Belgium’s most iconic symbols. Behind the apparent simplicity of the fry lies a surprisingly rich story, revealed here with humour and generosity.
The journey takes visitors through 8,000 years of history, from the cultivation of the potato to the perfect preparation of Belgian fries. More than 1,600 collection pieces, vintage posters, films, interactive games and testimonies from fry makers punctuate the visit. Visitors discover the gestures, traditions, passionate debates and craftsmanship that surround this beloved culinary heritage.
Thanks to the audio guide, the visit unfolds at your own pace, alternating surprising facts with lighter moments. Visitors learn a great deal, often without realising it, as the approach remains accessible and lively.
Here, everything invites participation. Visitors can climb onto a tractor to evoke the potato harvest, step inside a fritkot, dance and sing in a cabaret dedicated to fries, take photos and even show their colours by choosing between team ketchup or team mayonnaise. Every space is designed to spark smiles, surprise and a sense of sharing.
Both children and adults quickly get caught up in the experience. Many leave surprised by the richness of the content and the highly immersive nature of the visit, often far beyond what they initially expected.
The visit ends with an essential highlight: a tasting of a cone of fries, offered at the end of the tour, with the sauce of your choice. Visitors can opt for a vegetable-based cooking method or the traditional beef fat. A simple, convivial and universally appreciated moment that perfectly completes the experience.
Visitor feedback speaks for itself: surprise, enjoyment and laughter. Some grandparents even return several times with their grandchildren, proof that the museum appeals to all generations. Even the most sceptical visitors often end up not wanting to leave.
Frietmuseum Brussels succeeds in turning an everyday subject into a complete cultural adventure that is interactive and family-friendly. Visitors discover, learn, play and enjoy great food along the way.
