An ideal experience for those who love spectacular places, gentle challenges facing the void and discoveries that combine knowledge, emotion and sweeping panoramas during a stay at the Lacs de l’Eau d’Heure.
At the Lakes of Eau d’Heure, engineering reaches a spectacular scale. The guided tour of the Plate Taille Dam, the largest dam in Belgium, takes visitors into an impressive world of monumental volumes, hidden corridors and vertiginous perspectives. Here, the technical achievement is experienced from within before being fully felt up above, at more than 100 metres in height.
From the very beginning of the visit, the atmosphere changes. Accompanied by a passionate guide, visitors enter the very heart of the dam, into a space usually unseen. The interior gallery, unique in Belgium and accessible to the public, reveals the inner workings of the structure: massive concrete, sharp lines and silence punctuated by deep echoes.
As the explanations unfold, visitors understand the essential role of the dam in water management and in maintaining the balance of the site. The figures are impressive, but it is above all the place itself that leaves a lasting impression. Everything here reflects control, precision and the quiet strength of industrial heritage designed to endure.
Then comes the moment many visitors await with a mixture of anticipation and excitement: the Skywalk. This glass walkway, suspended 107 metres above the ground, extends out into the void. Beneath your feet, the landscape suddenly opens up—vast and spectacular. The Lakes of Eau d’Heure stretch as far as the eye can see, shimmering with the changing light, while the dam reveals its immense scale.
The sensation is intense. The body hesitates, the gaze wanders, the heart beats faster. Visitors move forward slowly, pause and take in the view. Some smile, others hold their breath, but everyone shares this suspended moment between vertigo and wonder.
What makes this experience so memorable is the balance between educational insight and raw emotion. The visit does not simply explain: it allows visitors to feel the power of the structure, the complexity of its operation and the ingenuity of human design working alongside the forces of nature.
The site fits naturally into a wider exploration of the lakes, combining nature, water and monumental architecture. Just minutes from the leisure areas, the dam offers another perspective on the region—more technical, more impressive, yet just as fascinating.
Whether you are passionate about industrial heritage, curious about engineering structures or simply seeking a new sensation, this visit leaves a lasting impression. Visitors leave with vivid images in mind, a deeper understanding of the site and often the unforgettable memory of that first step onto the glass walkway.
