An ideal experience for those who love local history told differently, short and immersive formats, and accessible cultural activities, to enjoy with family, in a group or during a getaway to Tournai.
What if history became a show in its own right? The Crazy Stories of Tournai take you on an audiovisual journey that is both educational and entertaining, in the heart of the oldest city in Belgium. Installed in the new theatre room of the tourist office, this 20-minute animated film tells, with originality and a generous touch of humour, the extraordinary two-thousand-year history of the City of Five Belfries.
As soon as the lights dim, the tone is set. Dynamic animations, colourful illustrations and carefully crafted soundscapes bring the story to life and immediately capture attention. The narrative moves smoothly from one era to another, guided by lively storytelling that reveals unusual secrets and unexpected anecdotes.
Great historical figures appear throughout the story: Childeric, Clovis, Charles V, Louis XIV All contribute to this offbeat narrative that is accessible, surprising and often playful, making local history clear and engaging.
Designed for all ages, the show appeals equally to families, curious visitors and groups. The theatre can accommodate up to 75 people, including spaces adapted for visitors with reduced mobility, making it an ideal activity for group or school outings.
One of the major strengths of the Crazy Stories of Tournai lies in its excellent accessibility. The show is adapted:
for blind and visually impaired visitors (audio-described version – FR),
for deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors (subtitled versions),
for people with cognitive difficulties, thanks to the Easy-to-Read and Understand (FALC) method.
These adaptations are available in four languages (French, Dutch, German and English), reinforcing the international accessibility of the experience.
The Crazy Stories of Tournai offer an excellent introduction to exploring the city. In just 20 minutes, visitors gain clear historical landmarks, smile, feel surprised and above all feel inspired to wander through the streets, squares and monuments of Tournai with a fresh perspective.
Located in the heart of the city, the show naturally fits into a visitor itinerary, whether at the beginning of a stay or as an original cultural break between discoveries.
