Château de Vêves, a life-sized medieval tale to experience with the family
Nicknamed the Castle of Sleeping Beauty, the Château de Vêves seems to have stepped straight out of a storybook. With its slender towers, elegant appearance and warm atmosphere, it invites young and old alike to cross its gates for a complete immersion in the Middle Ages. Listed as exceptional heritage, this charming and fully furnished castle has been inhabited by the same family, the Counts of Liedekerke Beaufort, for more than 800 years—a rare fact that further strengthens the authenticity of the place.
A living castle filled with imagination
From the moment you enter, the magic begins. The decorated rooms, the furniture and everyday objects create the impression that the residents have just stepped out. Here, history is not frozen behind glass displays: it can almost be felt and touched. Visitors move from room to room with curiosity, discovering a castle on a human scale, designed to be understood and appreciated by everyone, from the age of 4 years.
And then there is that bedroom the one where the true Sleeping Beauty is said to have fallen asleep. A touch of legend that fuels the imagination and makes children’s and adults’ eyes sparkle alike.
Knights and princesses take centre stage
At the Château de Vêves, children are not just visitors. All are dressed free of charge as knights and princesses for the duration of the visit. Instantly, the castle becomes their playground of adventure. In the armoury hall, one of the largest rooms in the castle, they can try real medieval equipment, feel its weight and imagine the battles and daily life of the past.
This playful approach transforms the visit into an immersive experience, where learning happens naturally through play, observation and participation.
A sensory discovery of the Middle Ages
The visit appeals to all the senses. In the medieval kitchen, visitors can smell the spices used in the Middle Ages, instantly evoking the flavours and traditions of another time. The scents, materials and architecture of the rooms all contribute to this complete immersion in a carefully recreated medieval world.
To extend the adventure, a treasure hunt without reservation awaits families, while playful guided visits and the Escalpade (by reservation) allow visitors to explore the castle in an even more interactive way.
