An ideal visit for those who love soulful places, majestic gardens and cultural experiences that unite elegance, history and wonder, with family, as a couple or during a stay in Wallonia.
Owned by the Princes of Ligne since the 14th century, Beloeil Castle reveals itself as a grand living story, both intimate and majestic. Often called the Belgian Versailles , it unfolds through luminous salons, precious collections and a magnificent 25-hectare French-style garden, where water, greenery, symmetry and elegance meet in perfect harmony. Here, every step invites visitors on a journey through history—the story of a princely family, but also that of Belgium and Europe.
Crossing the castle’s doors means entering a world sculpted by time. The richly furnished salons, bathed in natural light, reveal the daily life and important moments of the Ligne family. Visitors’ eyes linger on the details—the materials, the textures and the objects that have travelled through the centuries, each carrying stories that are sometimes fragile, sometimes heroic.
The castle’s history has also been marked by dramatic moments, including a devastating fire that once threatened its treasures. Thanks to a remarkable rescue of the collections, including the famous library, much of this heritage survived. These episodes give the visit a deeper meaning: visitors are not only admiring objects, but also understanding the history they have endured.
Among the treasures of Beloeil Castle, the library of more than 20,000 volumes impresses both by its richness and by its atmosphere. Shelves lined with old bindings and the subtle scent of paper create a timeless space that invites quiet contemplation.
This room perfectly embodies the spirit of the castle: a profound attachment to knowledge, transmission and memory. It reveals the close connection between the history of the Ligne family and the broader intellectual and cultural movements of Europe.
Outside, the French formal gardens extend across 25 hectares with magnificent perspectives. Structured avenues, reflective pools and the interplay of light and shadow invite visitors to stroll slowly through the landscape. Every viewpoint feels carefully composed, like a painting where strict geometric design blends with the softness of nature.
Walking through the park offers a rare feeling of balance and space. Visitors pause beside the water, follow the long sightlines and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere that complements the cultural richness of the castle itself.
Beloeil Castle also comes alive through iconic annual events. The Amaryllis Exhibition, one of the most anticipated floral events of the year, transforms the residence for nine days. Each room becomes a floral masterpiece filled with spectacular arrangements created by passionate amateurs and professional floral artists. Vibrant colours, elegant shapes and delicate fragrances bring the historic interiors to life.
Another highlight is the Nocturnales by Luc Petit. At nightfall, the park becomes a fantastical universe where theatre, dance, circus and magic merge. Visitors wander through immersive scenes and enchanted settings that reveal the castle in a completely new light, filled with wonder and poetry.
Located in Beloeil, in the heart of the Hainaut region, the castle fits naturally into a cultural escape in Wallonia. The visit offers a rare balance between heritage, nature and exceptional events, appealing both to history enthusiasts and to visitors simply seeking beauty and inspiration.
