House of the Megaliths, a journey to the origins of time

The House of the Megaliths is much more than a museum: it is a gateway to an exceptional heritage dating back more than 5,000 years, located in the village of Wéris, one of the Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia. Here, time seems to slow down. The setting is bucolic, peaceful and almost removed from the modern world, preparing visitors to travel back to the origins of human settlement, when the first Neolithic farmers and breeders left monumental traces of their presence.

From the moment you arrive, the welcome is warm and inviting. The House of the Megaliths encourages visitors to take their time, understand and explore. It serves as the ideal starting point for discovering the megalithic site, the village and the surrounding region.

Understanding dolmens and menhirs step by step

The museum offers a clear and accessible introduction to megalithic culture. Visitors learn who the builders of the dolmens and menhirs were, how they lived, farmed and raised animals, and why these monumental stones held such importance in their world.

The explanations are designed for everyone: curious visitors, families, school groups and archaeology enthusiasts. Through educational displays, temporary exhibitions, conferences and guided tours, the House of the Megaliths makes this distant past surprisingly understandable and engaging. Visitors discover, question and reflect — and afterwards look at the surrounding landscape with fresh eyes.

A living site between museum and nature

The visit naturally continues outdoors. The House of the Megaliths is the starting point for signposted walking routes leading to the dolmens and menhirs scattered across the surrounding countryside. The landscape is gentle and green, perfect for walking and contemplation. The stones appear along the paths, silent and powerful witnesses to another era.

The site is also lively and welcoming, offering activities for children, educational programmes and group visits. Everything is designed to make the discovery a shared and intergenerational experience where learning happens together.

A gourmet break and meeting place

After the visit or a walk through the countryside, the cafeteria and its sunny terrace invite visitors to take a relaxing break. It is the perfect moment to taste the Dolménius, a local amber craft beer that can only be found here — a playful nod to the identity of the site. The atmosphere is simple and convivial, ideal for sharing impressions or planning the next part of the journey.

The museum shop completes the experience with walking itineraries, tourist information, brochures, postcards and publications that allow visitors to extend their discovery and take a piece of this ancient heritage home with them.

An accessible and deeply peaceful place

Fully accessible for visitors with reduced mobility, the House of the Megaliths is designed to welcome everyone. What many visitors remember most is the feeling of calm and connection with nature and history, in a preserved environment where guests feel genuinely welcomed.
