An ideal experience for those who enjoy slowing down, taking care of themselves and reconnecting with an authentic wellbeing tradition, to enjoy during a stay in Spa, in the heart of one of Europe’s great spa towns.
At the Thermes de Spa, time slows down. For more than 150 years, this renowned wellness destination has preserved a centuries-old thermal tradition, deeply rooted in the history of Spa, Europe’s first spa town. Here, caring for body and mind feels natural, in a contemporary setting that respects and extends Spa’s rich thermal heritage.
Perched on the Annette and Lubin hill, 80 metres above the city, the thermes offer an immediate sense of distance from everyday life. They can be reached by road or via the inclined lift from the city centre, and upon arrival the view opens up, the air feels different and the body begins to relax.
Everything begins with water. The baths fed by the natural Clémentine mineral water, heated to 33 °C, extend across 800 m² of indoor and outdoor pools. Visitors move from one to another seamlessly, carried by the constant warmth throughout the year. Glass walls, natural light and panoramic views over Spa create an enveloping atmosphere, almost suspended in time.
This thermoludic experience is complemented by jacuzzis, hammams, saunas, invigorating showers, relaxation areas and gentle activities such as aquagym. Each space invites visitors to listen to their bodies, set their own rhythm and enjoy the simple pleasure of water.
In the eastern wing of the building, L’Institut by Thermes de Spa brings together expertise in individual treatments. Across 60 treatment cabins, a wide range of thermal, beauty and wellness treatments is offered, combining contemporary techniques with practices inherited from tradition.
The famous carbonic baths, using water from the Marie-Henriette spring and provided in copper bathtubs, recall the prestigious history of the place. The peat baths, sourced from the Fagnes, also reflect the strong link between local nature and wellbeing. Massages, body and mind treatments and beauty rituals complete a rich offer of nearly 100 exclusive treatments.
The building, with its graceful curves, blends harmoniously into the surrounding woodland. The natural light, soft colours and fluid layout create an atmosphere of calm and harmony typical of the Blue Ardennes. From the pools and the panoramic restaurant, visitors enjoy sweeping views over the city of Spa, the valley and the arrival of the funicular.
This constant connection with the landscape enhances the feeling of being in a cocoon, a refuge where one feels both protected and open to nature.
The history of the Thermes de Spa is also one of careful evolution. After management was entrusted to the Eurothermes group in 2004, the arrival in 2024 of the Chaîne Thermale du Soleil as majority shareholder confirms Spa’s place within a European thermal dynamic, while respecting the unique identity of the site.
Each year, nearly 170,000 visitors come here seeking relaxation, treatments and renewal, proof that this alliance between past and future continues to resonate.
Visitors often speak of the serenity, the sensation of being outside of time, and the gentle atmosphere of a place where one immediately feels at ease. Whether coming for a few hours in the baths, for a specific treatment or for a full wellness stay, the experience remains deeply soothing.
