Furfooz Nature Reserve, where nature and history meet step by step

The Furfooz Nature Reserve offers a rare experience, almost outside of time. Here, a walk in nature becomes much more than a simple hike — it turns into a journey through preserved landscapes and ancient remains. In less than four kilometres, the site brings together remarkable diversity in the heart of the Lesse Valley, in a calm and deeply rejuvenating environment.

An immersive walk in the heart of preserved nature

From the very entrance, the tone is set. The trail winds between limestone cliffs, dry grasslands, shaded woodlands and riverbanks. Forest scents mingle with surprisingly Mediterranean-like aromas, unusual for this latitude. As the seasons change, so do the colours: deep greens dotted with flowers in spring, followed by shades of gold and red in autumn.

The constant murmur of the Lesse accompanies the walk, while stone stairways and paths along the cliffs bring a gentle sense of adventure that families particularly enjoy. The route is clearly marked and accessible, encouraging visitors to slow down, observe, breathe and simply enjoy the surroundings.

Exploring ancient history: caves and Roman baths

Furfooz would not be Furfooz without its unique combination of nature and archaeology. Along the path, visitors discover cool and mysterious caves, followed by the remarkably preserved remains of Roman baths, evidence of a sophisticated human presence in ancient times.

The visit is enriched by a new immersive experience. A film with 3D reconstructions allows visitors to visualise the ruins as they once were. Through the mobile application, the remains seem to come back to life when viewed on-site. This playful and intuitive approach turns the walk into a fascinating exploration without ever disrupting the natural atmosphere of the reserve.

A sensory and peaceful experience to enjoy at your own pace

What many visitors remember most is the rare feeling of travelling through time while walking in extraordinary nature. The cool shade of the caves contrasts with open spaces filled with light. Scenic viewpoints over the Lesse Valley offer perfect moments to pause and contemplate the landscape.

The site radiates a deep sense of serenity, ideal for disconnecting. Visitors come to learn, of course, but also to feel: wonder at the biodiversity, curiosity about the ancient remains and the simple pleasure of a refreshing walk. The calm atmosphere reinforces this balance between discovery and relaxation.

A family-friendly and accessible site designed for discovery

The Furfooz Nature Reserve is easy to explore, whether with family or friends. The route offers remarkable variety over a manageable distance, making it possible to enjoy a rich experience without excessive effort. The organisation of the site and the interpretation tools make the visit smooth and enjoyable, even for those discovering archaeology for the first time.

Please note that dogs are not allowed in the reserve, in order to preserve the tranquillity of the site and protect its biodiversity.
