An ideal experience for curious families, nature lovers and all those who enjoy learning through play, to enjoy during a Wallonia getaway, to discover the discreet, living and precious world of the river and leave wanting to take care of it.
RIVEO – Where rivers reveal themselves invites visitors to take a fresh look at the often overlooked worlds flowing close to our homes. Located in the heart of nature, this human-scale centre offers a playful and accessible immersion into the fauna and flora of Belgian rivers. Here, visitors observe, understand and marvel while having fun at the same time. It is an ideal visit for families, curious minds and anyone who enjoys learning in a different way.
From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere feels welcoming and relaxed. RIVEO does not aim to impress through scale, but through the richness of its discoveries and the clarity of its message. It quickly becomes clear that water is the common thread running through the entire site.
The aquariums are one of the highlights of the visit. Behind the glass, the fish of our rivers appear in settings that recreate their natural habitats. Visitors observe their movements, behaviours and differences. Many people realise here — often with surprise — just how diverse and fascinating local aquatic life truly is.
Visitors’ attention sharpens, and questions arise naturally, especially among children. These calm, almost hypnotic moments help visitors understand the fragile balance of river ecosystems and the importance of protecting them.
The exhibition STOP INVASIONS! adds a strong contemporary and environmental dimension to the visit. It introduces the public to invasive alien species, such as the raccoon, and explains their impact on local ecosystems. Although the topic can be complex, it is presented in a clear and accessible way.
The exhibition encourages awareness without being moralising. Visitors discover surprising species and leave with a broader understanding of the challenges facing our rivers today.
To extend the experience in a lighter way, the mini-golf course is integrated into five themed gardens. This activity, which can be enjoyed independently of the museum visit, offers a playful way to explore the river environment. Laughter echoes across the course as visitors learn almost without realising it.
This blend of education and play is part of RIVEO’s identity. The visit is not a rigid route but a flexible experience where everyone can explore at their own pace.
For those who wish to go further, RIVEO offers nature and fishing activities by reservation. Walks following the tracks of the beaver, family fishing sessions and fly fishing workshops allow visitors to experience the river from the inside, guided by passionate instructors.
These outdoor moments strengthen the connection with nature. Visitors observe, listen and learn to read the landscape and the signs left by wildlife. The activities are suitable for families, groups of friends, incentive events and various groups — everyone is welcome.
RIVEO proudly describes itself as a small centre with a big passion for rivers, and the phrase fits perfectly. The visit is original, playful and deeply rooted in the natural world. It encourages visitors to look differently at the rivers they encounter every day — to notice them, respect them and better understand their importance.
