A perfect place to slow down, observe and share an authentic moment in the heart of Walloon nature, where biodiversity tells its story without artifice, in all its beauty.
At the Domain of the Caves of Han – The Wildlife Park, nature unfolds on a grand scale. Across 250 hectares of forests and plains, this vast territory, the largest wildlife park in Belgium, offers an authentic encounter with European wildlife in a preserved and deeply peaceful environment. Here, you do not simply pass through enclosures: you enter a sanctuary of biodiversity, where humans become discreet and animals reclaim their place.
The visit adapts to your preferences. On foot, the walking trail invites a slow and attentive stroll. Steps become slower, observation sharper. You listen to the sounds of the forest, watch the clearings, and look for movement among the trees. The landscape occasionally opens onto wide panoramas, particularly over the former Lesse valley, offering viewpoints that enhance the feeling of immersion.
Aboard the Safari-car, the discovery takes on another dimension. Guided and fully narrated, it allows visitors to approach the animals without disturbing their tranquillity. The gaze drifts across the natural expanses, while explanations shed light on behaviours, habitats and conservation challenges.
The Wildlife Park is home to a wide diversity of species. Red deer, fallow deer and wild boar roam freely across this vast territory. Rarer or protected animals such as the Przewalski’s horse and the European bison highlight the importance of the conservation and reintroduction programmes in which the park actively participates.
Encountering the large predators is often one of the most memorable moments. The wolf, lynx, wolverine and brown bear fascinate as much as they impress. Observing them in such a vast and natural setting creates a blend of wonder, respect and curiosity, particularly among younger visitors.
The visit concludes with a highlight: the Bear Hill. Across 2 hectares of nature, four brown bears roam, play, rest or explore their territory. The setting allows for prolonged, almost contemplative observation. Visitors pause, watch and sometimes fall silent. Time seems to stand still, leaving space for a simple yet powerful emotion: witnessing wildlife in its true form.
Beyond the visitor experience, the Wildlife Park of the Domain of the Caves of Han plays an essential role in the protection of endangered species. Conservation and reintroduction programmes are an integral part of the site’s identity. This dimension gives even greater meaning to the visit: each observation becomes an act of awareness, and each step an invitation to better understand and respect the living world.
The Wildlife Park is a place to visit with family, where children marvel at the closeness of the animals, but also as a couple or with friends, to reconnect with nature. The atmosphere is calm and sensory, punctuated by the scents of the undergrowth, the play of light through the foliage and the subtle sounds of wildlife.
The Domain of the Caves of Han – The Wildlife Park is an ideal experience for those who appreciate wide open spaces, respectful encounters with animals and discoveries that soothe as much as they inspire wonder.
