"La Maison des Terrils" is housed inside an ancient washroom at the Gosson slag heap site, formerly used as a miners' shower and cloakroom. This building has now been converted into a slag heap interpretation centre.

After discovering the neighbouring plants and animals in images, you will set off to meet them in their natural environment!

Considered for many years as the painful scars of a bygone industrial era, slag heaps are now known to provide shelter for many species, some of which are endangered. Man's abandonment of these apparently-hostile sites has allowed them to be colonized by nature.

The inventories conducted by Natagora have clocked up over 500 varieties of plants, around 90 bird species, over 40 butterfly species and around 20 beetle species!

You can discover this extraordinary biodiversity during an enjoyable guided tour of the site.
