Pottery House
Bouffioulx has a unique resource in Belgium: its sandstone and its potters.
The town of Châtelet has decided to capitalise on this fabulous asset to create a major tourist attraction, the Maison de la Poterie.
The purpose of this interpretation centre is to retrace the history and origins of pottery in Bouffioulx and the surrounding area, the stages in its manufacture, the work and art of the potters, the products and glazes used in their manufacture, and the various uses to which these products are put, so that the profession of master potter can be fully understood and appreciated.
It demonstrates the ancestral skills of the town's master potters, and provides an opportunity to discover the riches of a province that may be industrially depressed, but still harbours quality craftsmanship.
