Pietersheim is one of the 5 gateways to the Hoge Kempen National Park. The many activities for children and the fine monuments make for a day-filling programme, where you can glide nonchalantly through time.
Moated Castle (52 Waterstraat, 3620 Lanaken)
Plunge into the past in the Pietersheim moated castle, the winner of the Flemish prize for the preservation of historical monuments 2010. This 12th century edifice reveals all its secrets in the Museum and Visitor Centre. There are guides on hand for you and the children (5-year olds to children in the first year of secondary education inclusive), who can also organise playful activities. The whole family can participate in exciting knight’s tours.
Children’s farm (12 Neerharenweg, 3620 Lanaken)
On the other side of the 80-hectare estate, you can have more fun at the children’s farm where an entire range of typical farm animals awaits the visitors. And do not forget to pay a visit to Lotte & Giel, two rabbits who will tell you all about their friends. The Kabouter (leprechaun) path (40,000 Kabouter footsteps) is also a lot of fun. And then? To the playground! On the double! This playground has been partly arranged for children with disabilities. Book a carriage ride in advance (ca. 25 people). Groups of 20 to 68 persons can spend the night in the accommodation centre.
