Women from Flanders
What role did women play in the eventful development of Flanders from the 9th to the 16th century? The narrative will take you into the unknown world of these noble ladies. You will discover them as coveted brides in international politics and as “executioners” in conflicts. They shine as protagonists of culture and religion. They are the preservers of the lineage. They get even with resentment and deceit. They are passionate in love and ready to protect their offspring with the fierceness of a lioness.
The exhibition not only features objects and images, but also lets women speak for themselves -- and the “Women from Flanders” have wonderful, instructional stories to tell. With photos by Lieve Blancquaert.
A bit of history can be nice too.
Children get a riddle to solve and are sent as princesses or knights into the Sterrebos in search of family keys from the past to chart a family tree.
Along the way they obtain information on how things were in past times. A nice activity for children aged 4 to 12, which parents and/or grandparents are bound to enjoy a lot as well.
