Turnhout was granted its municipal charter in 1212. For its 800th anniversary in 2012, Turnhout can assume the title of “Cultural Capital of Flanders” for one year. One of the high points of the festivities is the Exhibition ‘Turnhout Terminus Turnhout Centraal’.
It examines the complex concept of “identity.” The exhibition features seven surprising stories, each of which elucidates one aspect of the history of Turnhout or the Campine, and links are drawn between the city and the rest of the world. Sometimes serious and mythical at other times, the stories refer to the city’s past. The main actors put Turnhout on the world map.
