Municipal Museum

This museum is located in the former Saint John's Alsmhouse. The present building constructed in 1555 is one of the few buildings in Ypres not to have been completely destroyed during the First World War. The Municipal Museum illustrates the age-old history of the city by means of old paintings, prints, maps and original photos. Here one also find an important collection of tin. The Municipal Museum also presents the highlights of the fien arts collecion of the City of Ieper. The jewel in the crown is the extensive collection of works of art by the Ypres female painter Louise De Hem (1866-1922).

From 15/10/2011 till 14/10/2012, the museum is organising the temporay exhibition 'Beeldig Ieper '. Over 100 paintings and aquarelles prouve that Ieper catched the attention of artists for a long time.
